The Ruttermolen is an ancient classified watermill in Tongeren. The oldest sources available tell us that the 'Ruttermolen' was founded before 1360. It's therefore one of the oldest mills on the river 'Jeker' in Tongeren.
During the battle of 'Lafelt' in 1787, the Ruttermolen was completely destroyed. Most of the actual buildings are from this époque.
The enormous iron waterwheel is from beginning 20th century and it drives 3 pairs of stones. The mill functions for 100% and can produce about 600 kilos of flower each hour.

THE RESTAURATION

The mill worked till 1967, and works again since 1998.
The Ruttermolen is a classified monument since 1984.
In 1993 the site was bought by the family Vanherf-Racquet who made of this mill one of the most beautiful working watermills of the Flanders.

THE FUTURE

In 2002, the former stables are transformed into 4 nice apartments.
The 18th century mill is in the middle of a huge protected area of conservation.
The Ruttermolen is only 4 kilometres away from Tongeren, the oldest town of Belgium.

All the rooms are on the first floor and have the necessary comfort.

On the large inside place there's a real holiday environment : go-carts, bikes, football ... and also our brand new heated swimming pool!

RURAL HOLIDAYS

The really nice apartments are integrated in the former stables and have all a wonderful view on the nature.
All our appartments are well equiped and brand new.
The whole environment as well as the chambers is absolutely clean.

If you'd like, we can make a tour through the mill.
While the kids are playing, the parents can rest on the nice garden furniture.
At the borders of the river 'Jeker', it can be really fantastic.
Don't forget your rubber boat for a trip on the Jeker.
If all this isn't enough, why don't you go for a cool swim in the Jeker ?

HOW TO DRIVE

From Aachen-Liège
From Antwerp

Follow highway E313 (From Antwerp to Liège or from Liège to Antwerp)
Take gate 32 ('Tongeren') and follow 'Tongeren' (left)
Continue and you'll pass under the railroads.
Follow 'Centrum' and at the red lights take right, direction ‘Sint-Truiden’.
Now, after 4 red lights take right direction 'Koninksem’.
Follow this road, and after 3 km you have a T.
Take left, this is the ‘Ruttermolenstraat’.
After 500 meters you see the ‘Ruttermolen’ at your right.

From Brussels

Follow highway E40 direction 'Liège'.
Take gate 30 ‘Crisnée’.
Pass 2 times a round-about shortly one after the other, to continue direction ‘Tongres’.
Pass the red lights.
After 4 km, this road becomes the ‘Ruttermolenstraat’.
When you enter 'Rutten', you only have 1.500 meters to go.
You see the ‘Ruttermolen’ at your left hand.
